The Cumbria Senior Men's Team are fully integrated within the CUGC, our fixtures can be seen from the menu, diary and on this page.
We are open to golfers who are 55 years of age and over, and who are members of golf clubs affiliated to the CUGC. We have a fixture list of Northern Counties Golf Union (NCGU) events running from May to September each year, these fixtures include our Seniors League matches against Cheshire, Durham, Lancashire, Northumberland and Yorkshire.
The Senior matches consist of 9 holes Green some match-play format in the morning followed by 18 holes 4BBB match-play format in the afternoon, all matches are played off scratch and there are twelve players in a team. The other main event we compete in, is the England Golf Union - Northern Seniors Qualifying “Big Six”. This is a 36-hole stroke play event held over one day with a 6-man team, again competing against the same Northern Counties above, with the inclusion of the Isle of Man. The winning County on the day then represents the Northern Region in the English County Finals later in the year, this is probably the most prestigious competition for all Senior County players and the Northern Counties to be involved in.
Additional to the formal fixtures above, we have pre-season friendlies against other Senior Golf Unions and the Cumbria Ladies team. We hold a 36-hole Senior County Championship event annually, which is supported by an 18-hole Nett competition on the same day, the Championship winner qualifies to represent Cumbria in the England Golf Senior Men’s Championship at Woodhall Spa.
County Senior Squad coaching, training and fitness sessions are arranged pre and during the season, together with warm-up and pre-season golfing get-togethers to foster team spirit and camaraderie, these are held at clubs throughout Cumbria.
